The new piece will receive its German Première during `altstadtherbst kulturfestival düsseldorf´, followed by performances at the Burghof in Lörrach and in Saarbrucken on the occasion of the 2. international dancefestival `n.o.w. dance saar´. Please do let us know if you plan on attending one of these performances or if you would like any further information about the new production.

“Le Jardin des Délices” is a piece for nine dancers and a pianist, inspired by a painting by Hieronymus Bosch. Arousing a delight for the sight – the choreographer Blanca Li dives into one outstanding and enigmatic visual work of art history.
Bosch painted his triptych „The Garden of Earthly Delights“ in 1504. Blanca Li and her collaborators are dunking into his cosmos of grotesque ado in-between heaven and hell and translate it into their own contemporary dance- and film language.

Cephalopods dance in a droll and colourful scenerie, a virtual unicorn drowns in a sea of tears, we meet Nijinsky in a solo, Carla Bruni seems to cross the stage, and Blanca Li confronts us with her view on today´s madness.
« (…) I have always wanted to give movement to this pictural expression of a place where hell mingles with paradise, satire with morality, where the obsession of sins and salvation reaches an unequalled force. In my creations I like to mix various modes of expression. Here the work of Eve Ramboz, specialist in digital visual effects, who has already made two films on paintings by Bosch, will come in dialogue and interaction with my choreographic work.» Blanca Li

Created in June 2009 for the festival Montpellier Danse, “Le Jardin des Délices” was also presented in Paris´ Théâtre des Champs Elysees and throughout French summer festivals.

La beauté est là, la fantasie aussi, de même que la fascination et une vraie drôlerie. Mais ce qui rend la pièce émouvante, c’est son portrait de l’humanité : tendrement fêlée et terriblement attachante.”
