Vikings at war - New book about the Vikings.
by Kim Hjardar and Vegard Vike
Wherever the Viking ships sailed, they left enormous suffering in their wake. But through these meetings of cultures, European and Nordic societies were also transformed.
Never before have the art of war, and the weapons and raids of the Viking era, been presented together in one book. This book displays the offensive and defensive warfare techniques of the Vikings and their weapon technology, military traditions and tactics. The reader is taken on a journey through the campaigns that brought the Vikings to the far east, to Africa, the ice cold north and to the Native Americans in the West.
The book presents the most important military events from the defeat of the Anglo-Saxon kingdoms in England until the establishment of the Russian empire and the plundering in North Africa and Italy.
Through detailed reconstructions, illustrations, maps and photographs, the book provides a vivid insight into one of the most exciting epochs of European history.
The book, in Norwegian language, has been a lively history full of interesting facts, Through detailed reconstructions, illustrations by Anders Kvåle Rue, maps and photo gives Vikings at war a vivid insight into one of the most exciting eras in the history of Europe. Which makes it all more easy to understand. As far as I know, Never before has Viking art of war, weapons and missions have been presentedtogether. This book showcases the Vikings’ offensive and defensive warfare, theirweapons technology, military traditions and tactics. It is an importent book in the famouse history of Vikings. I should love to see Vikings at war translated in to English and French.
