Thomas Johannes Mayer, A Wonderful Wotan at Bastille in Paris.
The new production of the Valkyrie by Richard Wagner at Opera National de Paris is good. Thomas Johannes Mayer is wonderful as Wotan. But he is not the only good singer on stage. Robert Dean Smith as Siegmund, Ricarda Merbeth as Sieglinde, Yvonne Naef as Fricka, Katarina Dalayman as Brünhilde and Günther Groissböck as Hunding are all following up in the same way. The musicchief Philippe Jordan is getting the big Opera National de Paris Orchestra to sound just wonderful.
As we are in Paris, the usual BUUUH choir was up on the cheap places and marking them self when the Staging manager Günter Krämer, Jürgen Bäckmann for scenography, Falk Bauer costumes, Diego Leetz, light and Otto Pichler choreography were coming on stage. But that was unfair. This production is a good and successfull renewing of the old fashion history of the Valkyrie. It is very difficut to renew such an old history, but by this way of thinking new, the production staf has been sccesfull. – Some time I wonder if the Paris audience on the cheap places are buuing every time it is not a native frensh production team or singer. This is unpolight.

The third act idea of letting the Valkyries being nurces at a house for dead persons was great. Now they got a reason for being on stage, that the audience could understand, they all looked good, and was singing wonderful
. am pleased to mention all the names of the Valkyries, in addition to Katarina Dalayman as Brünhilde they were: Marjorie Owens, Gertrud Wittinger, Silvia Hablowetz, Wiebke Lehmkuhl, Barbara Morihien, Helene Ranada, Nicole Piccolomini and Atala Schöck.
As with the Rhinegold the staging are being helped by a big group of excellent male statists, which helps making the sceneries trustfully, and in this production too 20 of them completely nude on stage.

The finale scene of the Rhinegold is continued in the opening of the 2 act, where I feel that I am at the OL in Berlin in 1932, where young male atlets are bringing up the name GERMANIA, in a very delicious and ideafull scenography. With help of mirrors showing the stage from both sides and partly from the top. Great scenography job.
