ANNA BOLENA in Florence
7/29/13 •
FLORENZE: It is truly surprising that such a Belcanto milestone like Gaetano Donizetti’s Anna Bolena had never been performed in Florence in modern times. On the other hand, the fortune of this work started in 1957, with the historical revival at La Scala with Maria Callas in a production by Luchino Visconti. Review by Fabio Bardelli

Rigoletto – opera concertante – in Munich
7/18/13 •
MUNICH: The gorgeouse tenor Joseph Calleja, saved it all musically, he has an extraordinary beautiful tenor, who is perfect for this role, he was a big success. The second act was extraordinary for him, and also partly for Gilda, Patricia Petitbon, who did her job, but didn´t seem to look well on stage, and for Rigoletto – Andrzej Dobber. Macbeth in Florence
7/16/13 •
On the podium was the skilled James Conlon, and his conducting had its best moments in First Act Finale and over all in the last two Acts, with interesting orchestral colours and urgent rhythmes, theatrical sense and emotive tension. The main character was young Italian bariton Luca Salsi, a singer whose career is going strong day after day. He follows the tradition depicting Macbeth as a strong but if necessary also fearful character, with his full singing, excellent pronounciation, the right accents and a good voice volume. Review by Fabio Bardelli

Scandalouse Simone Boccanegra in Munich, but wonderful singers and orchestra!!!
7/13/13 •
MUNICH: Unfortunately, the wonderful music by Giuseppe Verdi and the outstanding singers got spoiled their Simone Boccanegra by a scandalouse tasteless modern Simone Boccanegra in Munich. What we heard in the text and in the music was one history, -wonderful- , and what we had as the pictures was from another world, which not had anything to do with the history that is used by Verdi to compose his opera Simone Boccanegra. Review by Henning Høholt

Les “Raretés” d’EUGEN JOCHUM – CD
7/09/13 •
His performance of Suite nr. 2 from Ravel’s Daphnis and Chloë is very involving, played with a luxuriant instrumental taste, showing rythm and expressive nuances so to let us forget that the conductor’s roots aren’t French at all.
