WASHINGTON/UNITED STATES: Carl Tanner sings Melville´s Captain Ahab, among nautical sets and multimedia effects in Jake Heggie´s Moby Dick, Libretto by Gene Scheer, based on Herman Melville’s 19th-century literary masterwork novel, premiere 22. February 2014.

In a concert version of Richard Strauss Die Rosenkavalier, Rene Fleming and Christoph Eschenbach (conductor) join forces. The spring season ends with the world premiere of a one-hour opera: An American Soldier, composed by the young Huang Ruo (1976-), who sets to music the life an death of an American-Chinese soldier in Afhghanistan. www.dc-opera.org
