KRONACH/GERMANY: Kronach is a town in Oberfranken, Bavaria, Germany, located in the Frankenwald area. It is the capital of the district Kronach. Approximately 17000 habitants. A visit to this beautiful city brings your thoughts on to the family name Cranach
. And in this case to two men with teh first name Lucas, the father and his son, both painting artists, where the younger, the son, is being celebrated this year because of his 500 years birthday 14h October.
Kronach is the birthtown of Lucas Cranach the Elder, Maximilian von Welsch, as well as Johann Kaspar Zeuss and Josef Stangl
. The town is equipped with a nearly complete city-wall and Germany’s biggest medieval fortress (Festung Rosenberg). The headquarters of German television and AV equipment manufacturer, Loewe, is located here but will be moved to Munich after a restructuring of the company.[2]

In 1634 during the Thirty Years’ War the town was successfully defended against a German Swedish army with the help of the town women. During the first world war this was the site of an Officers’ Prisoner of War camp.
Here in the old but modern center of the Frankenwald, the „Franconian Forest“, you will find a special jewel. Our picturesque city is embedded in beautiful landscapes with the three rivers Haßlach, Kronach and Rodach and simply fascinates with its medieval city center and a defiant citadel.
First discovered in 1249, the fortress is one of the biggest and best preserved fortifications in Germany
. The history of the city as well as of the charm will captivate every single visitor. But next to the historical Kronach you will find a modern city full of life wich offers sports and recreational activities, art, culture and festivals as well as shopping opportunities.
