In this smashing production the two lead characters Heidi Ruud Ellingsen and Mads Ousdal are an excellent couple. And the rest of the cast in all ages is without a weak points, also as a chorus.
The producers have earlier been criticized for using prerecorded music. This time the pit is full of very alive musicians. The chamber orchestra of 10-11 virtuoso musicians produces a cutting edge brass sound, but it lacks more warming strings.

The impressive designs relies on earlier works in Brno and Reykjavik by czechian Petr Hlousek. He uses a lot of imaginative techniques in 3D to make the world go around, and he takes us into exciting spaces. It is a mystery that his work is not credited better in the program.

Talented children on stage
The extraordinary nanny Mary Poppins has gone a long way from the books of Australian–British Pamela Travers (1899-1996). The story goes that she hated the Disney movie version because harsher elements were taken out. She had to fight to get an invitation to the cinema premiere in 1964, just about fifty years ago.
For the musical version many years later, 2004, she insisted that the Hollywood people were kept out, and the writer of “Downton Abbey” and other successes Julian Fellowes completed the script. Behind this musical version was Cameron Mackintosh, godfather of the London musical scene.
The stage version relies on the movie with Julie Andrews, and the stage version in Oslo relies on the London-Broadway production. But director Linn Olsen and the gifted cast make it fresh.
After a slow first act the rest is a crescendo. All the way it is great entertainment with a high fly Mary crossing the auditorium as a surprising finale.
