FASCINATING MEDEA

PARIS: No 2 in the Medea triologie at Théâtre des Champs Élysées. Medea, music: Pascal Dusapin and choreographie: Sasha Waltz became a fascinating performance.

But i regret to say, not because of the music, composed by Pascal Dusapin. Which spite in some choire parts which sounded well, and the demanding recital presentation that Caroline Stein formed out of the titelrole, became booring, and not rememberable at all
. Medea became fascinathing because of the choreographic ideas, the dancers, and good lighting.

The choreographie survives because of Sasha Waltz´s ability of forming interesting ensembles, her visually good groups, telling history
. Not so much about her liftings, which sometimes, to me, seems clumpsy, and often not elegant at all. Furthermore she has often the same type of  too much swinging arms, which makes that her different choreographies looks very much the same. The skirts dressing for some of  the male dancers is not any new longer.

Caroline Stein is an outstanding capacity, I am impressed by her managing of making the recitative operatic music alive, and survive, she did a good job, and was brilliant on stage, looking great, also in her dancing cooperation.

Marcus Creed conducted, Christine Birkle is responsible for the costumes, which funtioned well. Light by Thilo Reuther was excellent. Scenograhy by Pia Maier Schriever, Thomas Schenk and Heike Schuppelius functioned, I dont see the importence of the large centrifugues, making it all as a stormy stage in the end. Wa that neccessary? The two childrens , Sophia Sandig and László Sandig did a great job as the two boys, sons of Medea and Jason. László was specially well in his cooperation in the dance with one of the adult dancers, coming dancing talents, continuing their family traditions??
