PARIS/FRANCE: Erkki-Sven Tüür, Estonian composer, presented his new creation “SOW THE WIND”, at the Philharmonie in Paris, with Orchestre de Paris, conducted by Paavo Järvi 20.9.2015.

It is ordered by Orchestre de Paris  and the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra.

It was in the frame of the celebration of another famouse Estonian composer Arvo Pärt´80 years birthday (11. September) that these two world famouse orchestra, – Vienna and Orchestre de Paris, – together has ordered an orchestral work from Tüür. And the audience heard a remarkable work at this création.

As a critic I allways feel priviliged, when I get such an opportunity to be the when a new piaece are being “born” in front of the audience
. What shall we hear, and to get my posibility to write my own experience of what I feel with what I hear. Of course it is an additional great plesure to share a few words with the composer after such a magnifique event.

SOW THE WIND”

Erkki-Sven Tüür´new composition is starting with a big passage where the clarinets are leading flying tunes, like when its like many birds in large heards, but as when we see the birds like that in big moves,in the autumn, we know that it is going to go in one or another direction, but the exiting is that e dont know in what direction it will go. After a while the activity is slowing down a bit, only deep strings and wood and the concertmasters beautiful violin solo, who reminds me of that it is not only big, hevay birds in theworld, but also smaller and even more elegant birds

. Some large birds with big wings. On top of all this, the sound of, 30 small strings which is launcing their way to the heaven, with out feeling that they have a drama going on under them.

From the piano we hear a deep rolling getting higher and higer up, which ends up in a climax on the top. We are getting a kind of a rock feeling, but much further developed than if it had been at a rock conert, we feel more the drama going on around us, and in the world right now, as perhaps also was the inspiration for the composer, and he manage to develope these organic feelings, so that the audience get this abstract drama, which goes on down at the earth, and some one, the hight flying birds (small strings) are strongly going in their own direction, to a place that they feel safe. They are some of the special characters in Tüür´drama this evening.

This reminds very much of the imigrations we have to day, and at the same time the climatic changes, where we are in a second getting harder wind and rain, and in the next second, warm sunshine. Tüür has long developements, and he has in the middle of that remakrable small details, whic, in the first class acoustic at the Philharmoni de Paris are being visual (for the ear). And giving another feeling for the inside soul deep in the body. – I should have wished to hear this music piece one more time. It would have helped me a lot.
