Dries Van Noten – Inspirations – Book/catalogue to the exposition
PARIS/FRANCE: This publication brings together the disparate elements that have inspired the Belgian fashion designer Dries Van Noten.
References borrowed from fashion, painting, photography, cinema and music, from East and West, constitute a sort of personal collection similar to a Renaissance curiosity cabinet.
Dries Van Noten’s creations rub shoulders with the fashion collections of Les Arts Décoratifs, but also with a Venus by Yves Klein, an image from the film A Clockwork Orange, a portrait of David Bowie… forming relationships that are at times analogous, at others confrontational, sometimes surprising, and always highly evocative. Koen de Waal’s photographs of Dries Van Noten’s house and garden, both of which are important sources of inspiration for the designer, prolong this voyage into the depths of his visual imagination, affording glimpses of his daily life.
The book ends with a visual summary of all the designer’s collections since 1986, some of which feature among the fashion world’s most outstanding shows from the past two decades, and is the most complete reference work available on Dries Van Noten.
Unfortunately we have not yet received the book from the editor, therefore we can not write any review, only this press information.
