OSLO: This year marks the 20-year anniversary of Dance Year ’93. A multitude of different events throughout the entire country over the course of an entire year marked the largest investment ever in dance as an artistic form of expression in Norway.
During CODA 2013 more than 20 Norwegian choreographers will present works large and small over the course of 14 days of festival Oslo Opera House, Bærum Culture House, Riksscenen, Kunsthall Oslo and other venues.

ESTABLISHED NORWEGIAN CHOREOGRAPHERS IN INTERNATIONAL COLLABORATION
A number of Norwegian choreographers have in recent years made their mark also in the international dance world.

Jo Strømgren is one of them with an impressive list of productions, tours and visiting performances in more than 50 countries, making him one of Norway’s most important dance ambassadors
.

It is a pleasure for the festival to welcome back Jo Strømgren Kompani, on this occasion with the Polish Dance Theatre on the occasion of this company’s 40-year anniversary with the piece CZTERDZIESCI.

Ingun Bjørnsgaard is another Norwegian choreographer who has a strong international presence – both as a choreographer and with her own company IBP. The festival will present her latest work HEDDA, a project produced in collaboration with CCN-Ballet de Lorraine, which premiered in Nancy, France in May of this year.

YOUNG NORWEGIAN CHOREOGRAPHERS WITH ARTISTC ACTIVITY ABROAD
Many Norwegian dance artists choose to continue living abroad after completing their dance training. During this year’s festival we will present three younger Norwegian dance artists with similar backgrounds: all three have been affiliated with P.A.R.T. S, and both Anne-Linn Akselsen and Tale Dolven have also been affiliated with the company Anna Teresa de Keersmaeker/ROSAS.

These three dance artists have with time chosen to pursue different paths and in terms of expression, their works range from pure dance, to multimedia – as in the case of  Ludvig Daae – to more socio-political themes such as in Human Works’ productions.

CODA FRINGE
This year a new addition to the programme will be CODAfringe. Two years ago I saw a dance work jewel at Scenehuset: VRANGFORESTILLING (Delusion), by Vesaas/Kongsness/Sterud. I was completely won over: I saw young, gifted dance artists interested in exploring new forms of expression rather than copying those of others – each with their own unique character. Come and be surprised at the Oslo Opera House’s Prøvesal and at Kunsthall Oslo.

Welcome to this year’s festival!
