As the solist for the piano concertos this week Paavo Järvi has choosen to ask the brilliant pianist Nicholas Angelich to play Brahms Pianoconcertos no 1 and no 2. No one the first eveneing, where we attended the concert, and no two the following evening.

Brahms piano concerto no 1, is one of the most demanding concertos in the world, it includes a lot of work to do for the pianist, it is demanding because of the many difficulities and of course the length, usually more than 45 minutes. And it can be performed in many different ways, up to what and how the conductor wants it, and how the pianosoloists feels it. I have heard it in the large symphonic way, and some body who played it in the “Mozart”way, in fact the Mozart way didnt work out so well.

Nicholas Angelich and the conductor Paavo Järvi has choosen the big symphonic way, and that is the one which, for me,  suites the pianistic and orchestral material best. This pianist did an excellent work, dynamic, brilliant tempi, good details, cadences, which has been worked deeply with, showing a lot of feelings, whoch was going deep in to the hearts of the audience.

When then it is the Orchestre de Paris who is following up with their outstanding soloists, and a musically conductor, it became a brilliant interpretation.

I am impressed that they, the soloist, orchestra and conductor,  can manage two so demanding and different Brahms concertos in two days. That tells about a great preparation work, and of course, some of the best musicians in France in the Orchestra.
