«Tacea la notte placida… Di Tale amor che dirsi» air extrait de Il Trovatore, was Anna Netrebkos first number. Immediately i thought “What a beautiful voice”.
The long Ballabille II and III, from Macbeth, well played by the orchestra, but uninteresting, and only to fill up the time, opened for the Macbeth part followed by «La luce langue», air extrait from Macbeth, interesting that Netrebko has choosen this piece, not so often heard in opera concerts.
Then the welknown orchestral Prélude from La Traviata,
And at last in the first act the tenor Riccardo Massi was invited on stage «Gia nella notte densa», duo extrait from Otello. He has a beautiful voice, but he is not an Otello tenor,- so honestly, I felt that the Otello duet was placed in the program because Anna Netrebko wanted to present this side of her wonderful talent, and also to prepare the audience for that she, perhaps?, will change to be a Wagner/Richard Strauss soprano in the very future

. (?).
By choosing the whole program I had the feeling that she has choosen this kind of program to present her in that direction. Which is also being shown in the way that she spring 2015 (May 10th) will be singing Richard Strauss “Vier Letzte Lieder” with Orchestre National de France, conducted by Daniele Gatti. She will be a great Wagner Eva and Elisabeth. In fact I also could be dreaming of Netrebko as Isolde in the future. Please prepare Isoldes Liebestod for a future concert.
After the break it was time for other famouse opera composers and Netrebko started the second part with: Puccini «In quelle trine morbide», air extrait de Manon Lescaut, followed by Giordano «La mama morta», air extrait de Andrea Chénier Very beautifully presented.
Then another musical part Leoncavallo Intermezzo from I Pagliacci,
Followed by Cilea: “Ecco respiro appena.. Io son l´umile ancella (Adrianas arie) from Adriana Lecouvreur.
Then once again visit of the great tenor in a pice which suited his voice: Puccini, Intermezzo et «oh, sàro la piu bella… Tu, tu, amore tu», duo extrait de Manon Lescaut. Very well formed.
Anna Netrebko and her programming cooperators, should have let Riccardo Massi sing a solo piece in the first part pf the program, then it would have been perfect, and also polight towards the audience (and the brilliant tenor). If she, or the programming comittee wanted a solo concerto, then she could have made it alone. To invite a brilliant tenor at this highest level, he should have had at least one solo number.
The conductor Massimo Zanetti did a brilliant job, the orchestral soloparts was musically very well formed, with good underlining of details, his forming of the music around the soloists was first class, it is clear, that he knows the repertoire, and it seemed like he has had a good rehersal periode with the Janácek Philharmonic Ostrava. The Chech orchestra is good, it was a good representation from their side this possibility to show them self to the demanding audienceat Theatre des Champs Elysees, I liked especially the string group, which was during the way sounding brilliant, and a great cello soloist. a good brass group and welldone harp work. Unfortunately the Bratch leader was unlucky with intonations.
In fact the happy and greatfull audience, who completely filled up the theatre
. Got only 4 arias and two duets. Ok, plus the encore Rusalkas aria from Rusalka, by Dvorak. I would have expected a bit more, and as mentioned one, or two solos by the outstanding tenor Riccardo Massi. Then it would have been a perfect opera concert.
