AILEY II OPENS THE VILNIUS FESTIVAL 2012
VILNIUS: Founded in 1997, the annual Festival of Vilnius is one of the most prestigious, solid and versatile musical events in Lithuania
. With primary interest in presenting classical music, Performed by the Established soloist, ensemble and Symphony Orchestra from all over the world, it ook promotes contemporary Lithuanian music by commissioning new large-scale works, and offers a platform for musical theater and jazz.

The collaboration of the ITS Organisers and performers with world-renowned musicians has accelerated the acceptance of not only Lithuania’s musical culture but ALSO ITS Political Activities in the international realm. The roster of the celebrated performers, who have been among the Favourites of the Vilnius Festival includes Mstislav Rostropovich, Riccardo Muti, Krzysztof Penderecki, Yuri Bashmet, Gidon Kremer, Vadim Repin and, jazz legends Dave Brubeck, McCoy Tyner, Al Jarreau, Herbie Hancock Al Di Meola, Chick Corea, Paco de Lucia, Wynton Marsalis and the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra.
The active participation of the Vilnius Festival in the programs of Lithuanian Cultural Tourism and Its close cooperation with Diplomatic Missions of foreign countries has generated high interest among foreign guests and tourists in. Both this event and Lithuanian cultural happening in general.

New York-based modern dance companyAILEY II was formed in 1974 as Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre studio involving the most talented young dancers from Aileyschool. Alvin Ailey (1931–1989), a legendary African-American dancer and choreographer, the founder of the aforementioned dance theatre (1958), is now and then dubbed a revolutionary of the 20th-century modern dance.

Today Ailey II is universally renowned for merging the spirit and energy of the country’s best young dance talent with the passion and creative vision of today’s most outstanding emerging choreographers. Alvin Ailey, Talley Beatty, George Faison, Lar Lubovitch, Robert Battle, Kyle Abraham, Thang Dao, etc. Alvin Ailey personally appointed former Ailey member, Sylvia Waters, as Artistic Director in 1974. Under her direction, Ailey II has flourished into one of the most popular dance companies in the country, combining a rigorous touring schedule with extensive community outreach programs.
