AILEY II OPENS THE VILNIUS FESTIVAL 2012



VILNIUS: Founded in 1997, the annual Festival of Vilnius is one of the most prestigious, solid and versatile musical events in Lithuania
. With primary interest in presenting classical music, Performed by the Established soloist, ensemble and Symphony Orchestra from all over the world, it ook promotes contemporary Lithuanian music by commissioning new large-scale works, and offers a platform for musical theater and jazz.

The roster of the celebrated performers, who have been among the Favourites of the Vilnius Festival includes Mstislav Rostropovich, Riccardo Muti, Krzysztof Penderecki, Yuri Bashmet, Gidon Kremer, Vadim Repin and, jazz legends Dave Brubeck, McCoy Tyner, Al Jarreau, Herbie Hancock Al Di Meola, Chick Corea, Paco de Lucia, Wynton Marsalis and the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra.

The active participation of the Vilnius Festival in the programs of Lithuanian Cultural Tourism and Its close cooperation with Diplomatic Missions of foreign countries has generated high interest among foreign guests and tourists in. Both this event and Lithuanian cultural happening in general.

New York-based modern dance companyAILEY II was formed in 1974 as Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre studio involving the most talented young dancers from Aileyschool. Alvin Ailey (1931–1989), a legendary African-American dancer and choreographer, the founder of the aforementioned dance theatre (1958), is now and then dubbed a revolutionary of the 20th-century modern dance.

Saturday June 2, 19:00, Lithuanian National Philharmonic Hall. The guest of the Vilnius Festival –Muse Rubackytė pianist, is titled as the ambassador of the Lithuanian music culture in the world. She shares the stage with the Philharmonic Tchaikovsky Symphony Orchestra, established in Moscow in 1930, and Its Long-standing artistic director and principal conductor Maestro Vladimir Fedoseyev. The musicians invite you to discover the musical treasury of Russian composer Tchaikovsky and Submerge into a musical embodiment of Lord Byron’s story about the lonely Manfred. The Vilnius Festival hosts the meeting of the Lithuanian Chamber Orchestra, led by violinist Sergei Krylov, artistic director of ITS Temperamental always swarming with unique ideas, and flute virtuoso flutist Massimo, orig from Carnegie Hall in New York on the Teatro Colon in Buenos Aires, from Saint Petersburg to Jerusalem. He collaborates with Y. Bashmet, K. Penderecki, Ph.. Glass and C. Medieval Europe Singing: Tuesday June 5, 19:00, St. Vilnius. Johns’ Church. Vilnius Festival presents The Early Music Ensemble, Venancio Fortunat from France. Lauded for ITS subtle interpretations early music it was among the pioneers of rediscovery of the medieval musical treasures in the 20th century.
