The big Theater houses in Paris are supplying each other in a splendid way. What you dont find in the one house, you wil find in another house. In this way Paris is an outstanding metropole for first class opera, ballet, classical music, chamber music, and of course many other kind of Beaux-Arts. Theatre des Champs Elysees is allways enchanting us with their big variation in the program with the most outstanding artists.
The 2009-10 program includes:
OPERA
The Seven Deadsinns together with Mahagonny by Kurt Weill. La Cenerentola by Rossini,.Verdis Fallstaff. La Calisto by Cavali, one of the first operas ever composed 1651. But after Monteverdis Orfeo premiered 1607 in Palazzo Ducale, Mantua, Feb. 24. 1607. And Stefano Landis Il Sant’ Alessio from 1631, which the Theatre des Champs Elysees so splendid showed in 2007.
The three Da Ponte operas by Mozart, Figaros Wedding, Cosi van Tutte and Don Giovanni. The operapart of the season ends with Semele by Händel. But this is only the staged productions.
OPERAS IN CONCERT AND ORATORIES
Theatre des Champs Elysees has a long tradition of giving home to many Operas i concerts and oratorios, and that list is very long.
Beginning with Mozarts Requiem, Cosi van Tutte, followed by Callais Xerxes, Rinaldon Faramondo, Israel in Egypt, Ezio, Berenice, Athalia by Händel. In Faramondo the famous french counter tenor Philip Jaroussky will sing the role as Adolfo. Bergs Wozzeck, conducted by Esa-Pekka Salonen, Andre Ernest Modeste Gretrys Andromaque, lyric tragedie from 1780, 18th Octobre. Tristan and Isolde by Richard Wagner 5th an d7th November , conducted by Daniel Harding with Waltraud Meier and Lance Ryan in the titelroles and Mihoko Fujimura and Franz-Josef Selig as Brangane and King Marke.
This is followed by Donizettis Don Pasquale. Purcels Dido and Aeneas, Mendelssohns Paulus, Bachs two great oratires Magnificat and Christmas Oratorio. Then La Boheme by Puccini 15th December in a concert production from Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich with Anja Harteros and Joseph Calleja as Mimi and Rodolphe, Rossinis Tancede, Poulencs Gloria, J. Ludwig Bachs Musique Funebre and ending with Brahms A German Requiem, 3th July 2010.
BALLET
The great Gala des Etoiles du XXI Siecle is a good tradition, which is bach again. Saint Petersburg Ballet Theatre is also bach in Paris during the end october - 1 november, this year with Giselle and Don Quixote, also this year with their star Irina Koleshnikova, as we wrote critic about after her Swan Lake autumn 2007. Europe Danse is too bach this season with pieces by Mats Ek, Thierri Malandan, Castafire, Alexander Ekman and Bianca Li. Flamenco is too a tradition at Theatre des Champs Elysees, Sara Baras Ballet Flamenco with many performances december and january.
This Theatre is also celebrating the 100 years jubilee of Dhiaghilevs Ballet Russe presenting Les Saisons Russe du XXI siecle the Ballet du Kreml,under the artistic direction of Andris Liepa and Andrei Petrov, performing The Afternoon of a Faune chorography by Nijinsky, Armidas Pavillon in new choreography by Jurijus Smoriginas and The Firebird choreographie by Andris Liepa after Fokine. The costumes are after Bakst and Benois by Anna Nezhnaya, To be performed 5th-7th March 2010. This performance is visiting other places in Europe too, will be shown in the Baltic during the summer.
In addition a wide range og classiscal concerts, both synphonic and chamber music.
